Chester Cathedral looks back on nearly 1,000 years of history, and entry is free for most of the year. Since September 2024, its app has been on the App Store and Google Play, linked from every page of the cathedral’s website.

The cathedral designed and built it in-house, with PandaSuite. Visitors use it to plan their trip, explore a map with points of interest, follow a timeline of the cathedral’s history, turn 3D models of objects from the collections, and take a quiz.

Service times aren’t typed into the app. They come from live data: the list of upcoming services, with a countdown to the next one, and events pulled from the cathedral’s website through its API. From there, visitors can also join a livestream.
